Walkathon 2017 - Friday 18 August

After an outstanding effort last year by the Leadership Team and the entire Westminster Community, the 2017 School Leaders in the Senior School, and the SRC in the Preparatory School, are excited to continue the Westminster Walkathon this year. Once again, it will be in support of the Hutt Street Centre, and we would like to invite the entire community to be involved!

Each year Hutt Street Centre serves around 50,000 meals, and offers social work and support services to around 2,200 people. Showers, laundry facilities, visiting health professionals, an aged city living program for older clients, recreation activities, education and training, legal aid, and assistance with finding housing are all services provided to the 200 plus people experiencing homelessness who visit the Hutt St Centre each day. It truly is a great cause!

Based on the 'Walk a Mile in my Boots' campaign, Westminster students, staff, and other members of our community will participate in a Walkathon inside the School grounds. The event is to be held on Friday 18 August 2017, 1.30 to 3.15 pm, using the Senior and Preparatory School ovals. Family members are encouraged to come along and join the walk—we would like as many people to attend as possible!

'Walk a Mile in my Boots' allows our School community to participate in a whole school event, that encourages students to reflect on homelessness, and have a direct impact on their local community.

This year, our main initiative as a leadership group is to spread the message of the Westminster Spirit, that is, the set of values and morals that underpin the characteristics of a Westminster student. A major focus of this initiative is further promoting a sense of community within the school environment. As such, we would like to extend this year’s Walkathon to the wider Westminster School community including parents, grandparents, Old Scholars, and special friends.

We hope with more community members involved this year, we will raise greater awareness and funds for the cause, in addition to having a great day! Musical talent will be on display to add to the atmosphere, and there will be opportunities to purchase food and drinks.

Students were provided with a donation sheet to acquire commitments to donate from family, friends, relatives, neighbours etc. So, to the students and families, please continue to take every opportunity to raise funds by asking those around you!

All monies raised will be collected after the event, and donated to the Hutt Street Centre. Last year we raised over $15000, we hope to eclipse this in 2017!

For anyone who doesn’t have contact with a current student, but still wishes to donate to this great cause, please contact the Senior School Office via Email or T: 08 8276 0251

We hope to see you there!
