Like the rest of the Westminster community, I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of our next Principal, Simon Shepherd.  I am looking forward to working with Simon and helping his wife Susan and boys, Daniel and Jeremy, settle into Westminster.

Over the last ten months in my role as Acting Principal, I have learnt a great deal from leading the entire School. It has been an enjoyable experience and provided me with some uniquely interesting challenges to navigate, many of which I would not normally see as Head of Preparatory School. During my appointment, I have developed a clearer understanding and appreciation of the wonderful opportunities that students in Years 8 to 12 have, and how hard the staff work to create these opportunities. In returning to the Preparatory School, I look forward to using this first-hand knowledge to help our Years 6 and 7 students as they prepare for their secondary education. Across the whole School, I have been able to affirm with staff how important the student learning journey is from the earliest days at Westminster to graduation. It is an exciting journey in which we must work together to ensure students are constantly inspired to step up each year and be the best they can be.

I know my time as Acting Principal will continue allowing me to enhance Westminster’s reputation as being a truly united school on one campus. Already there are some excellent initiatives in the pipeline for Upper Primary to bring the best of primary and secondary learning worlds together with more specialist subject teaching around STEM, but more on that next term!

I am very appreciative of the opportunity afforded to me by Council Chairman Phillip Styles (’66) and the School Council, and being able to work in a different capacity with the School Leadership Team. I sincerely thank the students and staff for being both understanding and patient with me when I have had to ask questions as to why things are done in a certain way. I extend my thank you to our parents from across the School - the support and encouragement I have received from you and our School community has been very heartening indeed.

I look forward to a very busy and productive Term 4 as we collectively welcome Simon Shepherd as the sixth Principal of Westminster School.
